Procyon is the scientific genus for the raccoon. In nature, raccoons are the ultimate survivors — highly adaptable, famously resourceful, and equipped with the manual dexterity to bypass complex obstacles and secure what they need. They thrive in exactly the environments where other animals fail.

When we engineered a mobile hardware system designed to navigate brutal Hawaiian lava rock, thread heavy steel bands past tight plumbing obstructions and property line constraints, and lock down a homeowner's most vital resource against seismic forces — the name was a perfect fit. The 2006 Kiholo Bay earthquake struck the Big Island at magnitude 6.9. Tanks buckled, split, and collapsed. The failure mode — Elephant's Foot Buckling — was predictable, and it had no commercial fix.

When seismic forces cause liquid inside a tank to surge, the lower walls experience a sudden spike in hoop tensile stress. Unreinforced corrugated walls buckle outward at the base — a catastrophic structural failure with no warning and no recovery.

Procyon was founded to build that fix with precision. Not a workaround. Not a retrofit kit assembled from flat strapping and hardware store parts. A purpose-engineered, patent-pending system built around the same principles as its namesake: adapt to the terrain, maneuver past every obstacle, and relentlessly protect the resource.

The Procyon deployment system is not a single product — it is five interlocking subsystems that work together to deliver a calibrated, corrosion-isolated, seismically-rated band installation on any corrugated upright tank.

The structural core.

Polymer-Jacketed Steel Bands

Premium 1/2-inch high-tensile steel banding is the primary load-bearing element. Under seismic loading, the lower third of a corrugated tank experiences a massive spike in hoop tensile stress — the band's job is to resist that outward force and prevent Elephant's Foot Buckling. The steel core is sized to handle the dynamic load calculations for residential and agricultural tank profiles.

The polymer jacket serves a second critical function: complete galvanic isolation. In Hawaii's salt-air, high-humidity coastal environment, any metal-on-metal contact becomes a rust trap. The heavy-duty polymer jacket ensures the steel band never touches the tank wall directly, eliminating the corrosion pathway that makes conventional flat strapping a long-term liability rather than a solution.

Stable on any terrain.

All-Terrain Deployment Platform

Hawaiian terrain is not flat. Lava rock, compacted red dirt, and uneven agricultural ground demand a material-handling platform that stays stable and operational without leveling prep or site modification.

The platform maintains controlled band tension from the first wrap to the last, ensuring consistent preload delivery regardless of ground irregularity. It is engineered to work where standard equipment cannot.

Precise vertical advancement.

Vertical Band Placement System

Servicing tanks from 6 to 15 feet tall requires a controlled, height-adjustable vertical platform. The system scales to the exact tank height on-site — no separate equipment, no power source required.

Each band is guided to its target corrugation groove with precision, ensuring correct placement at the correct height across the full range of residential and agricultural tank profiles.

Keeps the band on track.

Band Alignment & Retention System

A steel band feeding around a large-diameter tank has a tendency to sag, drift, or hop corrugation channels — especially when navigating around tank fittings, overflow pipes, or inlet hardware.

The alignment system holds the band precisely in its target groove at multiple positions around the tank circumference, then releases cleanly after the band is tensioned and sealed — no adhesives, no permanent attachment, no surface damage.

Seals out corrosion at the source.

Integrated Corrosion Isolation System

Even with a jacketed band, moisture can migrate into the groove beneath the band over time — particularly in Hawaii's high-rainfall, salt-air environment. The corrosion isolation system addresses this at the point of installation.

A continuous barrier is applied directly into the corrugation groove immediately before band installation, creating a fully de-coupled interface between the band and the tank wall. The result protects the aging galvanized metal beneath it rather than accelerating its degradation.

Patent-Pending Protection

The Procyon deployment system represents a genuinely novel engineering approach with no prior art in this specific application. The combination of structural band geometry, purpose-built terrain-adaptive deployment tooling, precision vertical placement, band alignment and retention, and integrated corrosion isolation — working together as a single coordinated system — is the subject of a pending utility patent application.
